On Wednesday 1 February, our A-Level Textiles students had the rare opportunity to take part in a special workshop with Chanel ex-designer and fashion university lecturer Matthew Coats. He delivered a very engaging career talk discussing the many career opportunities within the fashion industry and worked with the students on different techniques on how to drape and build a mannequin. On Friday 19 January we were glad to welcome Sylvie Higgs, Account Manager at Sumitomo Electric Euro, who kindly delivered two masterclass talks for our Year 11 and Year 12 students. The masterclass consisted of a presentation of artefacts, including a Robot, transducers and a talk about electromagnetic waves and their application, such as an explanation of why radio waves are used for communication rather than visible light. Our Year 12 Textiles students are currently working on designs for a recycled fashion competition organised by Junk Kouture in partnership with Brent Council. Last week the company came to speak with the students and teachers to find out more about what inspired them to join the competition and filmed the video below. On the last week of term, our English department arranged for The Globe Players to perform adaptations of ‘Macbeth’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’. The Year 10 and Year 11 students were treated to dazzling renditions that enriched their appreciation of these GCSE Literature texts as well as developed their cultural capital. The feedback from students and teachers was extremely positive, and we can’t wait to invite the company of actors back again. (more…)

Bread is made.
On Thursday 14 December, Dr Mahmoud kindly organised a cross-curricular enrichment activity involving a bread-making session with 25 Year 8 students, in line with the science curriculum for Year 8, where students have to learn about yeast and how it is used in food production. (more…)

On Friday 8th December our KS3 students took part in a fun and engaging Flamenco workshop. They learned about flamenco as an art form which was based on the various folkloric music traditions of Southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia. Students had a wonderful time during the workshop and clapped and sang Christmas carols in Spanish. (more…)
