On Thursday 2 July, a group of Year 8 students visited Vicar’s Green Primary School for the school’s French Day, leading a series of French‑language activities and games for children from Nursery to Year 3. Throughout the day, they brought exceptional enthusiasm and confidence to every group, keeping the children fully engaged and even teaching them new vocabulary and expressions. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience:
‘I loved the trip as teaching KS1 was a great experience; the French vocabulary we taught them was nice and I would definitely go again if I have the opportunity.’ (Year 8 students)
‘Thank you for allowing me to visit Vicar’s Green Primary School. It was a great experience, and I really enjoyed working with the children. We taught them some basic French through fun games and interactive activities, and it was great to see how engaged and enthusiastic they were. I found the experience especially valuable because, although I am confident speaking French, I sometimes find it challenging to speak to new people. This opportunity helped me build my confidence in communicating with others, and I really enjoyed interacting with the children. Overall, it was an amazing opportunity, and I am very grateful to have been part of it. Thank you again.’ (Year 8 student)
Also on Tuesday 7 July, a group of Year 10 students worked with Year 5 pupils from Vicar’s Green during a French event, leading presentations, teaching vocabulary and songs, and running activities including a discussion on a French film about disability. They even handed out French‑themed treats that pupils had to request in French. They represented the school brilliantly, showing strong confidence and enthusiasm throughout.
We are now in our fifth year of our transition project with Vicars Green Primary School, and we are excited to keep developing and delivering these activities for their pupils
and for our own students.
