On Friday 13 January we were honoured by the visit of Mrs Varatha Shanmuganathan who came to our school to deliver a special assembly to our Year 13 students. She gave an inspirational talk about her academic career and her life long passion for learning. Mrs Shanmuganathan taught at Alperton High School in the 1980’s and has lived and taught in four continents before emigrating to Canada.

In her mid-50s she completed her first master’s degree from the University of London and last year she was honoured by the Canadian parliament having achieved her second masters degree at the age of 87.

After the assembly a selected number of students had the opportunity to have an informal talk with Mrs Shanmuganathan and ask more questions about her inspirational life and academic career.
