We are delighted to share an update on the fantastic progress made in the school garden during the first term of the new academic year. Four Year 8 classes have been actively involved in a wide range of gardening activities, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity throughout the half term.

Students have worked hard to prepare the garden beds by clearing and refreshing them ready for new, nutrient-rich soil. A particular highlight has been the reimagining, redesigning, and rebuilding of a brand-new cucumber trellis, with high hopes of growing an even bigger cucumber crop this summer. The polytunnel and store cupboard have also been thoroughly tidied and reorganised, making the space more accessible and ready for the busy growing season ahead.

The children have put a lot of thought into supporting wildlife and wellbeing in the garden. They redesigned and relocated the bug hotel, adding a new roof and improving its structure, and prepared flower beds for spring planting to encourage biodiversity and pollination. The hedge area has been cleared and prepared to become a calm, tranquil space for relaxation and reflection.

In addition, pupils have shown excellent environmental awareness by creating new bird feeders using recycled materials such as plastic bottles. These will help support local bird life during the coming months.

Overall, the Year 8 students have done a fantastic job preparing the garden, leaving it in excellent condition for the next four classes to take over in the spring term, when the exciting stage of planting and growing will begin. We are very proud of their hard work and look forward to seeing the garden continue to flourish.
