On Monday 1 June we welcomed to our school Dr Sam Halliday, Reader in American Literature at Queen Mary University of London, who delivered a 2 hour session to our Y12 English students about topics covered in their lesson and looking at how these can be analysed further at university. The lecture was based on literary theory focussing on Marxism, Feminism and Post-colonial theory.
Student voice was overwhelmingly positive. Please see below some of their comments:
“The lecture was very interesting and it allowed us to see how current topics are addressed at academic level”
“I really enjoyed the workshop and the opportunity to debate and discuss our ideas with an experienced university lecturer.”
“The session was very engaging and it was interesting to learn about various ways words can be analysed and interpreted to convey different meanings.”
