On Tuesday 14 May, five musicians from the 50+ piece orchestra of Canada’s National Arts Centre visited our school and performed for our Year 8 students. On Saturday 4 May 2019, nine Year 9 Alperton students, accompanied by Miss Kerai and Mrs Sehdev, attended the Pangea Maths UK competition finals held at Middlesex University. Pangea is a reputed competition organised in 21 European countries, and is a fun and challenging competition for the primary and secondary students. (more…)
The Year 7 students of Alperton Community School were given the great opportunity to participate in the Race for the Line (RFTL) – a car racing competition based on an international STEM model. The course of the programme extended over 6 weeks, beginning just after the spring half term. (more…)
On Tuesday 26 April, one hundred and twenty Alperton students had the privilege of visiting The Official Nelson Mandela Exhibition currently taking place at Leake Street Gallery, London. The exhibition gave the students an insight into the personal life of the world’s most iconic freedom fighter and political leader. (more…)
On Friday 26 April, our year 10 textiles students participated in a series of workshops with the Celebrity Make-up artist and stylist Cinta Miller. The workshops were organised by the Artists in Residence charity run by our art and textiles teacher Andria Zafirakou, winner of the Global Teacher Prize winner 2018. (more…)
On Tuesday 2 April, our year 7 students were able to finally see their foam rocket cars in action during the Race for the Line competition. The challenge was part of a project run across the country to increase young people’s interest in STEM subjects, by getting them to work in teams to design, build and race their foam rocket cars.
The race track was built in our MUGA where students and staff gathered to watch the exciting race. We were pleased that all the cars met the safety instructions and arrived at the finishing line intact. Many thanks to all staff involved in delivering the workshops and organising the racing event.
At the beginning of April, five students from Exeter University visited our school. They attended a number of classes – maths, science, RS, physics, MFL and English – and shadowed different teachers from various departments to gain secondary school experience. They had a very positive experience with our staff and students for the 3 days they were with us and said they were inspired by our classroom pedagogy and the behaviour ethos of our school. On Saturday and Sunday the 16th and 17th of March, our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver students, along with two sixth form volunteers, braved the wind and rain of rural Buckinghamshire to hone their camp craft skills. The group took part in a walk to the campground, setting up tents, building shelters in the bush, making fires, roasting marshmallows, cooking over camp stove, rock climbing and much more! (more…)
On Friday 15th March, twelve students competed at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship at the Copper Box Arena. It was a big event with hundreds of students – some novice and some very experienced – competing from Y7-13. Our team came with personal targets – a set number of metres they wanted to row for their year level time limit – and every student surpassed their target! (more…)
