To make learning more effective and link what students are learning with everyday items, our Year 12 Applied Science class took part in a creative workshop using balloons to deepen their understanding of the electronic structure of the atom. The balloons were used to represent the different orbitals in the p sub-shell, each colour representing one orbital. The students found the workshops really helpful, allowing them to visualise what they are learning.

Thank you to Dr Mahmoud for organising this ingenious workshop and we look forward to hearing more about similar activities that stimulate students’ interest and creativity.
