On Thursday 7 May we invited a panel of judges from the fashion industry to come and view the year 10’s waistcoat project as part of a competition organised with the Textiles department and Brent Council. The students were incredible: they put in a lot of practice for their oral presentations and really impressed everyone with how well they communicated their ideas and spoke with confidence. Many of the students commented afterwards that they now feel less scared of public speaking and they actually enjoyed the process of talking through their ideas.
Congratulations to Jagruti and Anna-Maria who won prizes for the best oral presentations. The next round of prizes went to Hafsa, Sarvangi and Tisha, awarded for technical skill. The judges were so impressed by the work of the students that we had 3 winners for the main prize (Hafsa, Jagruti and Anna-Maria). This is a 2 day work experience placement in a fashion studio, where they will get to develop their existing skills and learn more about creative careers.
It was a fantastic morning and such a lovely experience to showcase the amazing creative work our students do.
