On 1 March, a group of our amazing year 12 students participated in the Nehru Cup, a yearly competition hosted by Harrow School engaging the participant students in high quality debates on various motions. ACS almost broke into the finals and our resilient students took so many positives from the competition! Below are the thoughts of our debaters and a few photos from the day.
‘I had an incredible experience at the Nehru Cup at Harrow School. Competing in the British Parliamentary style, I was amazed at how much I’ve grown as a debater. From the fast-paced preparation times to the tense moments waiting for results, the whole experience tested our teamwork, patience, and critical thinking. It was inspiring to see the abilities of the other teams as well, and it made me appreciate my own growth even more. Every challenge, every round, and every discussion was completely worth it. Would definitely do it again!’

‘This competition was so rewarding because I stepped out of my comfort zone and I had to think of ideas in a pressuring environment with a strict time limit and communicate these ideas effectively with other people from other schools. I believed this would be too stressful for me but as the competition progressed, I grew more confident and therefore calmer. I would like to thank Mr Ravi for this amazing opportunity as it really helped me develop skills out of the curriculum.’

‘Participating in the Nehru Cup was an incredibly rewarding experience! The experience challenged me to think more deeply, respond quickly to arguments, and engage with new perspectives offered by other participants. I am grateful for this valuable opportunity, as it has helped me further strengthen my public speaking skills and develop my confidence.’

und the debate competition quite nerve-wracking at first, but the more I engaged the more confident I became. If given the chance I would definitely like to debate again.
