On Tuesday, 3 June, a number of Year 10 students visited the SEGRO Heathrow Cargo site which forms part of the West London Community Investment Plan. During their visit, they heard from various staff members about the range of activities at SEGRO, the diverse customers they serve, and enjoyed behind-the-scenes access to DHL.

At DHL, the students were welcomed by the Senior Director of Operations at the DHL London Heathrow Hub. He shared his career journey, explaining how he was born and raised in West London, attended a local school, and worked his way up from an entry-level position at DHL to his current role. They then heard from the Talent Acquisition Advisor, who gave an in-depth talk about life at DHL, different entry routes, and the skills needed to build a career there. The students also toured the manufacturing floor, observing DHL in action as they watched the warehouse workers operate the machines, work together in a team and see DHL’s control room.

They had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the operations at SEGRO’s Heathrow Cargo site. They also learned about the importance of health, safety, and security in such a high-traffic estate, especially given its connection to the airport.

The trip gave our students a really valuable opportunity to broaden their aspirations, knowledge, and confidence all of which will support their transition to the world of work.
