In October 2010, the first provisions of the Equalities Act 2010 came into force, combining earlier anti-discrimination laws into a single all-encompassing act. So what progress has Alperton made in addressing these issues; how far are our current targets likely to foster and support more community equality?
So what does the Act cover? Among other things, this act prohibits unfair treatment in the workplace, when exercising public functions, in education and by associations (such as private clubs) and provides protection against discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
