BBC News School Report Day 2010

Your investigating journalists from Year 8 have been researching some of the latest topics around school.

Here, in brief, is the news from Alperton Community School on Thursday 11th March; watch the videos for a closer look!

Building Schools for the Future ; as our school is part of this programme, what does it mean for students studying at the school? Our headteacher Mrs Rafee explains.

Keeping Safe on Line ; after a horrific case of murder where the victim was groomed through Facebook, how can students stay safe on line? Students and teachers give their views.

Real artists at work; how do some teachers combine a life as a professional artist with working in a school? We talk to the teachers who manage to be both. Watch our in depth interviews.

Sports Relief 19-21st March 2010 ; what are you planning for this event? Some students and teachers are taking part and we find out all about their plans!

And so with the arrival of the big day, it's time for the editorial meeting to set up the news teams and to provide a final briefing...

Then it's down to work with a detailed examination of the day's news and preliminary thoughts about themes to pursue...

The first interview is 'in the can' - the theme - and a parent discusses the appropriateness of certrain books for school libraries.

ACS will soon be seeing a new school as part of the BSF initiative and our reporter interviewed the Headteacher, Mrs Rafee, who recently visited another local school which has almost completed its refurbishments as part of the same initiative. There was much to commend the way in which this was implemented, as we shall find out.

Cyber-bullying affects everyone and you can be bullied by text-message, email, and even have your photo posted online. Social networking sites, such as Facebook, are one source of danger and have even led to vulnerable people being targeted and in extreme cases murdered! See our special report below.
