Children’s Centre in Alperton

This has been an exciting time with the recent official opening of the new Sure Start children’s centre, supporting children (under 5 years of age) and their families.

What is a Children’s Centre ?

The Children’s Centre is a place where parents and carers who have children

0-5 years, can come and access information and advice on a wide range of issues from multi-disciplinary teams of professionals. The Children’s Centre provides many services to support children and their families by offering a full support package from parenting skills, health and nutrition advice, immigration, benefits, education, employment, courses on IT or ESOL and many more. These services are available to everyone in the local community whatever their cultural or linguistic background.

What is the aim of the Children’s Centre ?

Alperton Children’s Centre is committed to the “Every Child Matters” principles which aim for every child, whatever your background or circumstance, to have the support you need to:

• Achieve economic well-being

Where is this centre going to be ?

There will are currently 12 centre's open in the borough of Brent. Your nearest one is at Alperton Community School, Ealing Road (near the Alperton underground station).

What services we have up and running for you ?

Currently we have:

• Family Support sessions – where you can get advice from different professionals such as Children’s and Families Information service, Health visitors , road safety and much more
• Healthy Lil' eaters – is your child a fussy eater ? want to know about different healthy receipes ? then our qualified nutritionist can help you.
• Children’s Nutrition classes – (aged 3-5yrs) teaching kids about healthy foods, by making smoothies and cakes etc
• Citizens Advice Bureau (by appointment only)– provides advice and support with benefits, housing, immigration
• “Pop in and Play at out parent & toddler group - It’s a great way of socialising and meeting other parents and childminders. Join in fun activities and play with new toys.
• Jobcentre Plus – can offer advice on looking for work or returning back to work, on cv writing and interview skills.
• Speech and Language – Music and rhyme time for parents and children under 5 yrs. If you need extra advice on your child’s speech development you can see the Advisor on a one to one basis.

We welcome all families to join us and use the Centre to its full advantage. Most services are free and we offer on site crèche facilities for those using the centre.
