Extra Curricular
What extra-curricular activities are available to students?
At Alperton a large part of educational philosophy is based on offering the young people in our charge a rich and varied diet of extra-curricular activities.
The activities on offer will vary from year to year and for each year group.Over the last few years the enthusiasm and skills of the school staff have enabled us to increase those activities both in variety and coverage.
Sport
A large number of sporting activities are available to students including girls and boys’ football, girls and boys cricket, netball, athletics, basketball and dance.
Lunchtime and after school clubs
Extra curricular clubs include: guitar, drumming (kit, dhol, and djembe), steel pans, chess, Latin, science, Y9 & Y7 lunchtime club, comics, art, computers & ICT, hacky sack, and geography. The school has recently been successful in external competitions where students have gained credit in events as diverse as cooking, debating, and street art. Drama & dance productions
The school has an annual musical production in which all year groups are represented. Other productions which give students the opportunity to showcase their talents include end of term concerts and musical performances.
The school is keen for students to experience professional stage productions and visits are regularly made to plays, musicals and other theatre events including We Will Rock You, Dr Bunhead, Bombay Dreams, The Tempest, and Orestes.
Breakfast Club
The breakfast club currently meets as an activity club at Ealing Road on Monday mornings at 7.45am.Over the next two terms we will be expanding our coverage to take in Wednesday and Friday morning sessions with the option for students of a healthy breakfast to accompany their activities.
Enrichment Days
The school has a programme of six enrichment days where activities might include; museum visits, multi-sports, citizenship, health studies, mathematics games, science investigations, T*I*C*K activities, music, art, ICT, and year group visits.
Residential & Outdoor Education
We have been able to offer the chance of residential visits to a large number of students through funding obtained from the London Student Pledge ‘New Views’ scheme and the John Lyon Foundation.Over the last few years students have attended courses at outdoor centres in Sussex, Kent, the Peak District, Pembrokeshire, and GilwellPark. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme was re-launched in the school and it is hoped that it will grow rapidly once the first awards are gained.
How do I find out about activities?
Among sources of information are year assemblies, the parents newsletter - The Buzz, Headteacher’s communications, posters produced by staff and students.
How do I get involved?
The easiest way to get involved is to approach the staff member running the club.Joining a club is usually open to anyone with the enthusiasm to be part of that activity.Sports clubs may have selection trials and drama productions will have auditions but even then there will still be opportunities for keen students to be involved.
