Students who wish to study Gujarati in Year 10 will follow a two-year course leading to a GCSE examination at the end of their Year 11 (OCR Gujarati). The GCSE examination places an equal emphasis on each of the four language skills, namely, reading, writing, speaking and listening. It also caters for all abilities by offering a choice of papers at two levels: the Basic and Advanced level. Those wishing to be entered for the GCSE examination should have reached a reasonable standard of written and spoken Gujarati by the time of the Trial Examination in Year 11.

By the end of the course, students should be able to converse fairly fluently in a range of everyday situations. They should be able to read and understand simple texts, stories and newspaper articles. They will also be able to write letters, descriptions and stories in Gujarati with confidence.
