On Wednesday 7th February, a group of Year 9 and 10 students were invited to a Graduation Event that took place at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford. This was in celebration of their work on The Scholars Programme and gave them the opportunity to reflect on their options for university.

The Scholars Programme has involved our students working closely with a PhD Tutor in a series of small group university-style tutorials. They have been studying a ‘super-curricular’ course that explores topics they may not usually study in the school curriculum. Many of these researchers currently act as lecturers to students at university level, so it has been a unique opportunity for our students to experience university-style teaching. This culminated in the students completing an extended final assignment that has challenged them to work above their current key stage.

Working with Angharad Fletcher, King’s College London, Alperton students focused on the study of disease in the past and present, which extended their knowledge of science and history. Our Spokes-Scholars, Dhruv Patel (9X) and Billal Swalleh (10P), impressed at the Graduation Event with their confidence in speaking about their research and communicating their findings to the audience present.

Congratulations to all our young scholars. You have made us proud!
